Conference Intro

The 2014 conference will feature a variety of session types from plenary and bridging sessions, abstract-driven presentations to symposia all geared toward meeting the needs of various conference delegates. Other related activities, including exhibitions and affiliated events, will contribute to an exceptional opportunity for professional development and networking.

Objectives & Conference Participants

Objectives:
  • To bring together scientific experts, policy leaders, health programmers and economists to interrogate existing evidence and experiences on investment in health and development;
  • To present the most recent research and best practices on health efficiency models in addressing the health burden of diseases;
  • To enhance scientific and strategic collaborations for resource mobilization towards sustainable health financing;
  • To enhance scientific and strategic collaborations for resource mobilization towards sustainable health financing;
  • To promote effective action through leadership and shared responsibility at all levels of all sectors (government, private, civil society) to invest in health and achieve vision 2022
  • To promote accountability among all stakeholders in equitable financing and health investment for sustainable development.

Conference Participants:
  • Delegates attended this year's event. These comprised of policy makers, health care professionals, researchers both from within and outside Swaziland.

1. The Best Oral Presentation Award:
  • Chairperson: Principal Secretary Ministry of Health
  • Co-chairs: Two individuals –from amongst the health sector. This is meant to demonstrate the Government's commitment to working closely with implementing partners.
  • Organizing Committees: The chairs of the following committees form the organising committee
  • Co-ordinator: To co-ordinate the conference and liaise between the Ministry of Health, Organizing Committee and researchers at large.Three (persons) will play this role and one will be the lead coordinator.
  • Secretariat: This committee was responsible for overall administration, printing, communication and media relations. A person with communication specialization was a member.
  • Thematic: This committee was responsible for analyzing trends and major health issues in the country and how these relate to regional and global concerns in line with the conference theme. Based on this analysis, they have put together the conference tracks, oversee abstract review and selection. This committee periodically met with the scheduling committee to harmonise the conference program.
  • Fundraising: Marshaled financial resources required to make the conference a success.
  • Logistics: Responsible for the venue, transportation, protocol, accommodation.
  • Scheduling committee: Worked closely with the track and thematic committee, this group developed the conference programme, presided over the official opening and deliberated on keynote speakers.
